Live Oak Adventure
Live Oak Adventure will be here before you know it! This year, LOA will take place Wednesday, October 3 through Friday, October 5. We will be going to the Highland Lakes Camp on Lake Travis.
We truly look forward to this experience. It's a fun tradition that helps build positive relationships and trust within the entire fifth grade.
Program Description:
• Provides an intensive, outdoor academic experience
• Opportunities for students to participate in new and exciting team-building challenges
• Opportunities for students to see their teachers as people
• Opportunities to see their classmates as friends
• Opportunities to see themselves as an important part of the larger community
The fee for participation this year is $145.00. Please make checks out to Bridge Point Elementary. Scholarships (partial or full) are available if needed. Please contact the counseling office if you would like more information about a scholarship. Homeroom teachers will collect all fees and forms.
In addition to team challenges led by camp counselors and our WHS Teen Teachers, students participate in mini-courses taught by parent volunteers. For those of you who would like to lead a Mini Course, there will be an $8.00 charge for lunch, which must be prepaid in cash. Thank you for helping to make LOA 2018 a successful experience for your child! (Please speak with Ms. Pace if you are interested in volunteering.)
-On Friday, September 28th in the afternoon, the fifth grade team will meet with the students to go over expectations and answer questions. Here is what we will discuss:
We will hand out Live Oak T-shirts Tuesday, October 2nd, and students will wear them to school on Wednesday the 3rd.
- Drop Off: Please bring your child to school on Wednesday 10/3 with their duffel bag and bedding labeled with masking tape with first and last name. Our suggestion is to put bedding items, pillow, and towels in a large heavy duty garbage bag so that it is all together. Send an extra bag (labeled) with them for when they are packing up at camp. Riding the bus to school on Wednesday the 3rd in the morning will be difficult with duffel bags and bedding so please plan on driving your child to school that morning. Bedding and duffel bag should be dropped off by the flag pole Wednesday morning. Look for your Homeroom teacher's spot labeled with their name. This is where items will be dropped off. Students will attend morning assembly and Specials on Wednesday like a normal school day. We'll be leaving shortly after Specials.
-Early Pick Up on Friday the 5th: Students will need to be picked up early from school on Friday. We will be arriving around 12:15 PM. If your child will be picked up by a family member or friend, please let us know arrangements on Wednesday the 3rd, so that students know how they are getting home.
-Please keep an eye on the weather to make sure your child is packing appropriately. It is supposed to be a little cooler and we do have night activities so please pack long pants and a jacket. Remember not to overpack... they will be wearing their Live Oak T-shirts on Wednesday, so all they need is something for Thursday and Friday. Whatever they pack, they have to carry. We do recommend that students pack rain gear (poncho and extra pair of tennis shoes) in case it is wet outside. Please make sure your child packs closed toe athletic shoes. We will be outside the majority of the time, so please don't send anything that could get ruined.
-Sleeping Arrangements: There will be separate sleeping quarters for boys and girls. Female teachers will be with the girls and male teachers with the boys. The cabins are equipped with bunk beds and electricity. There are private showers and restrooms. Students need to bring towels, a sleeping bag or sheet and blanket, and a pillow.
-Medication: Please bring all medication (prescription or OTC) needed for Live Oak to Nurse Boldrick. All meds must be in original containers and you must have listed the meds on the medical release form.
-CELL PHONES and ELECTRONICS are not permitted.
